Competition Team

Backstage Dance Studio is home to the Backstage Competition Team. This award winning team consists of five groups – Baseline, Reckless, Custom Cut, Avant Garde, and Elite, ages 7 to 18. The studio team choreographers are Marty Roberts, Michelle Chandler Smith, Erin Hocevar, Rhonda George and Jenny Ingram. Auditions are held in June of each year, with required classes running from September through June. Our team competes in national competitions, mostly in the greater Seattle area, and attends national conventions throughout the country.

Each Fall, top choreographers from places such as Los Angeles and New York, are brought in for an In-Studio workshop. This is an incredible opportunity for team dancers to work with nationally recognized teachers in a small classroom setting.

Our team performs at the Seattle Center Winterfest each December and in January performs in a benefit show for Dance Masters of America. The team is required to compete at three competitions and to attend one convention, usually between January and April each year. Their annual show, Footnotes, is in the spring.

Several team members have the opportunity to travel to national competitions and conventions each summer. They have received high awards on a national level in places such as New York, Florida, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Backstage Dance Studio is very proud of its team. Team members develop strong character, maturity and drive. Whether our students go on to dance professionally or pursue any other career, they will have received an excellent foundation for growth from being part of the Backstage Competition Team.
